It would be very helpfull if the model handling would be the same as the 3D software the engineer is using.

View Manipulation Solid Edge:

Ctrl+T (top)

Ctrl+B (bottom)

Ctrl+R (right)

Ctrl+L (left)

Ctrl+F (front)

Ctrl+K (back)

Ctrl+I (isometric)

Ctrl+J (dimetric)

Ctrl+M (trimetric)

Mouse-based View Manipulation:

MMB or RMB+Ctrl+Drag (zoom)

MMB or RMB+Alt+Drag (zoom area)

MMB+double click or RMB+Alt (fit window)

MMB+Shift+drag or RMB+Ctrl+Shift+Drag (pan)

If this is not the same for other 3D software it should be a company or user selection wich type should be active. Other setting shoud be an option.
